The Ardennes, a natural region
The Ardennes is a scenic, forested region in southern Belgium, extending into Luxembourg and parts of northern France. Known for its rugged terrain, dense forests, rolling hills, rivers, and picturesque valleys, it offers a striking natural contrast to Belgium’s more urbanized and flatter northern areas.
The Ardennes consists of densely wooded hills and valleys formed by the Meuse, Semois, and Lesse rivers, among others. The terrain is rugged, marked by rocky outcrops and large stretches of forest, with elevations that generally range from 300 to 700 meters (around 1,000 to 2,300 feet).
This region is relatively sparsely populated and is ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, kayaking, and rock climbing.
