Flower Carpet in Brussels
Every two years, the Grand Place in Brussels transforms into a massive floral artwork. The Flower Carpet is made with nearly a million begonias, arranged in detailed patterns across the square.
In 2025, the event will celebrate a new theme, with live music, light shows, and balcony views for visitors. It’s one of the most photographed events in Belgium and only lasts a few days—don’t miss it.

Why Was the Flower Carpet in Brussels Created?
The Flower Carpet was first created in 1971 by Belgian landscape architect Etienne Stautemans. He wanted to show the beauty and artistic potential of begonias, one of Belgium’s top flower exports. By combining thousands of flowers into detailed patterns, he turned the Grand Place into a living work of art.
The event quickly became a tradition, returning every two years with a new design and theme. Today, the Flower Carpet is a symbol of Belgian creativity and a major event that brings visitors from around the world to the heart of Brussels.
